it has really been nice being home alone since the kids have started back up in school. however, i do miss them & i do miss our little routines from over the summer. but it's always a joy when they come running with hugs when they are off the bus. since i have a lot of time on my hands, my list of house projects can finally begin. i'm also finding it to be a lot easier to handle in getting things done w/out interruptions. so, i am starting from the bottom & working my way up, first room, the family room.
i have been wanting to change the color in here for quite a long time, like 3 years long time. i've been waiting until i finally decided on the color scheme. inspiration came from my own studio, light grey walls w/ turquoise valance & other bits & pieces of things laying around the house, too. i wanted each room to flow some how, allowing for some sort of consistancy throughout the lower level. here are some before pictures...
two bookshelves (not pictured) pretty much covered the orange/yellowish fire place wall...
big difference...
i really love how the fireplace pops w/ the new darker color Riverway by Sherwin Williams...
me covering every single hole on the walls in the family room...
nice & dry...i almost wish we had shorter bookshelves to show the walls off more.
everything pretty much back in it's place...
this is a before picture of the other side of the family room (sorry for this photo, i didn't take a before photo & this one was the only one i could find to show the idea of the other color in the room, ha)
this red chair used to be next to the bookshelves, kids like it here better...
big difference in color right?! it does look almost white. this photo doesn't do the color justice, it's called Quicksilver by Sherwin Williams. a lovely grey with a hint of blue, love it. it is also continued into the foyer/hallway area.
i'm glad i removed those sticks. i need to make it a habit to pull them out of the container more often to vacuum them, ha.
this is the view from the front door. i think i'm going to spray paint the black mirror/photo/key holder white. the color on that wall & the wall w/ the sign is a darker gray color called Gray Area by Bear.
i even bought new curtains at Target, i couldn't resist. i actually still need to finish painting on this wall...can you guess where? yup, behind the TV. Tim has been away in Colorado visiting family, so there was no way i would even think about removing that tv from the wall by myself, nor would i want to ask for the help. i did manage to paint far enough behind the TV so it's not obvious.
i love the outcome & the new look. the house really needed it. next is the kitchen. i have the back splash all picked out, but i need to paint it first. finally decided on a color & hope to pick up paint later this week or next...
thanks for stopping by, xo :)
